What kind of Black woman dates a White man?
Black women who date white men have been labeled so many things. In fact some of these labels attached to black women white men relationships have been the main reason why most of these women choose to only date black men.
Some black women have been bombarded with the rhetorical question: "What kind of black woman brings home a white man" by their family and friends whenever there is the mention of a white man they are dating. And this question is never asked in a positive light. In an article by Sandy Banks in the LA Times, Banks tries to shows us some answers that reflect two conflicting opinions of this woman. Is she:
Find your soulmate on InterracialDating.com
"Open-minded or desperate; a champion of her gender or traitor to her race; someone who is culturally secure or trying to look away from her own black face?"
If you asked me, the kind of Black woman who has a white husband or boyfriend is one who is smitten with love… one who falls for, dates and marries a man who makes her happy no matter the race.
What is your opinion of this black woman?

It's simply women trying to find their perfect match I imagine. Its hard enough to find the perfect partner, Why would you want to eliminate half of the population before you even start? Whatever the true reason, I am very very happy they chose to do so.

Attraction is a very personal thing. We all have preferences in what we like whether it's food, clothing., where we live and who we love. Color of skin is only or should only be an after thought. We put too much emphasis on color when we should be focusing on honesty, integrity, common goals and compatibily. The color of your skin does not guarantee these traits. To me there no difference in whether in why a black woman would date/marry a white man or a black, Asian, Latino or any other man. No specific ethicnic group has a corner on love and respect. I've dated men of different ethnic groups and you can find duds in all of them. If your man treats you like a queen he can be black as night or the whitest white man you can find, that's your man. Love him freely!

@Islandmixie "They would go too far with criticisms and delve in a place that was bordering on control when it came to speaking their minds. They did not do this with other races of people. Basically they let their guards down and what I saw intimidated me as felt threatening." You made a very good point above. I have often been told by many black women that I am so different from most black men because I am easy to get along and even if our opinions differ it should not lead to world war three. In General I think some black men and women on average are too secretive and make a big deal out of non-issues. The irony is that some white women echo the reverse and say most white men they have dated or married are not as open or easy going.....again it all boils down to the people we let ourselves fall into their trap with sweet words and physical attraction. Only weak men of any colour do not show their emotions or express their fears to their partners and women at the end of the day men hurt too and have anxieties.

Personally I think any black woman or any person for that matter who ONLY dates outside their race is suffering from a severe case of inferiority complex and has issues. I think it will be very odd for me to say I don't date black women only white women which now beggars the question. Why am I am on an interracial dating site? Which my answer will be I came on these site to meet women of all colours. The few black women I know who date white men do so because they GENUINELY happen to like them and would have dated the same man if he was black or rainbow coloured. Sorry to to spoil the party but some white men are just looking for a black woman as a play thing how many will seriously take you home ( Yes America is still rife with racism but it is no excuse ). On the other hand most men irrespectively of colour just want to have fun. At the end of the day it is a personal choice just so long as it is a genuine choice and not wanting to get what is out of your reach. By nature people of the same colour are naturally attracted to each other. A man's quality is determined by his personality not his colour no matter how many bad men a woman has met. As my gran bless her once said MEN AND WOMEN HAVE TO LOOK WITHIN THEMSELVES AND FIX WHAT IS ATTRACTING THEM TO THE WRONG PERSON. Good luck to everyone in their search for their soul mate irrespective of their colour.

I don't think White men are any better than Black men but I do find it to be much less difficult to relate to and communicate with White men. It had been that way with me since childhood. There have been great black guys I was interested in the past but there was always some type of cultural difficulty due to dialect, accent, fashion, and common interests. Something I've noticed that might just be specific to me is that every Black male I was acquainted with wished to "put me in check" no matter how kind they were in the beginning. Then their is the game playing and differences in courtship. They would go too far with criticisms and delve in a place that was bordering on control when it came to speaking their minds. They did not do this with other races of people. Basically they let their guards down and what I saw intimidated me as felt threatening. Boundaries were overstepped because they felt I should be able to " deal with it". Also my embracing my mixed heritage brought discomfort to them even though they admitted they were drawn to me because if my mixed heritage and physical traits. I know it's not easy being a black man and I think they have a higher level if stress and possibly supress parts of their psyche to accommodate societal standards. A strong black woman can deal with this. I cannot.

"If you asked me, the kind of Black woman who has a white husband or boyfriend is one who is smitten with love… one who falls for, dates and marries a man who makes her happy no matter the race." 100% agree with you, I am black woman, and I love all color types. It really doesn't matter, but as long as I can remember, I've always been mostly attracted to most white guys. Only thing is, I've only dated black guys. I just love being in love, it doesn't matter what color you are, as long as there are real connections and attractions. I'm single, but if a white that I'm interested in has a mutual attraction in me. I will go for it. Happiness and love is all that counts. Point blank period.

Lenkamoacha - Yes! Hopefully we are evolving enough as a species to honor the fact that we just all have different preferences. I am a white woman who has dated a variety of ethnicities. I am very attracted to black men. I've had friends ask me why - not in a judging way, just because they were curious. I generally turn it around and say, "Why do you like redheads?" Or short girls? Or tall guys? Or whatever? Most people can't come up with a concrete answer, it's just what makes our heart skip a beat. Date who you want to date, love who you want to love. Period.

Scorpion133, I take offense at what you just said about , "if a BM was rich and didn't mind spending." I am a black female that have loved dating and marrying white men all my life, because contrary to beliefs such as what you purport, I truly enjoy being with white men. It is not about money, or the superficial things you seem to want to portray. We, black women who love and date, and marry white men, don't do it for the money, for your info, I made more money than my ex, who was white, and still do than most men I date. So, tell me, why do the white ladies like black men? It would be totally ignorant if you were to tell me it was mainly for sex, or money for that matter! Wake up brother. We are all from the "Human Race", therefore shouldn't we chose our partner from such? Stop spreading hate and stereotypical thought. The world is getting smaller you know! And thank God for color-blind love! LenkaMocha

after reading all of your comments, let`s be honest about this issue. each of us at one time or another has desired to cross the fence. relationships are based on several parameters. looks, money, body, etc. etc. etc. sex is the driving force in any relationship. at on time or another all of you felt a little angry when you saw one of your kind with another race. you were just big enough to accept it and move on. most black men get angry at a white man when we see them with the fine foxes we want for ourselves, and the sisters get jealous when the brothers choose to cross the tracks. i am of mixed race, indian, black, white, and i think a little coon ass. where do i fit? the way i see it nature with man`s help has given me choice, and it feels great. as time moves on we are becoming one race, and i want to be a part of that. so all of the idiots, racist, self centered, and a few more things i could say, grow up. if we desire freedom, don`t you think a person should be free to choose in this department also? THERE IS ONE MORE THING TO CONSIDER. to the sisters out there, if a bm was rich and didn`t mind spending, a lot of you would not be here on these sites today talking about this today. if i have offended anyone it was not my intention. the creator loves us all, that is why we have choice. CHOOSE WISELY

I mainly got on your system because I find "individuality" a REAL turn-on! And here, SO MANY more women, of all races, are not afraid to "be" themselves. Thats what REALLY gets me to send Email &/or flirt. Already have two intensly interesting women of color as friends (and getting coffee w/someone new in Vegas when I visit family out there soon). As for black women in general, diva/nerd/SO unique, etc, (and when will they stop photoshopping Beyonce' making her SO excessivly white looking???) i find in general their sensuality to be on a different wavelenght. Not better, just different. Sometimes radically as I did have a teenage crush on Grace Jones (seriously, still kinda do lol) so there ya go! It's primal in a sense on how they express outwardly what they have inwardly. And I have seen more Black women as Zen Masters of that on here & in general than any other race (asian/Japanese come a close/different second) who just radiate the confidence that comes with expressing THEIR TRUE SELF!

Any woman that decides to date outside of her culture is a woman who has grown and evolved into "Mature Womanhood, Love, & Sexuality!" When you reach maturity and go through different experiences your preferences change because your needs change. Your heart holds all of the answers to your questions- and you know how you want to be loved, and how you want to give love, and then you go get it!!!

Black women have liked me for years. I don't what they liked about me, but i was flattered by it. I grew up inm a small in a rural area and still met black women. People ask me the same question sometimes. Why do you like black women? Is there something specific that attracts you to them? I dont have a definitive answer. I just have a real attraction to attractive black women. So, people will always be that way and question it, or maybe they're jealous, who knows. We all like what we like, and race should never have anything to do with it. If you're happy, that's what really matters.

Killerwolv, I completely agree. There is something different about black woman in america. A lack of "entitlement". They GENERALLY (not all) seem more humble, more attractive, genuine nicer and have stronger MORALS then almost any white girl I have ever met. Almost all the black woman I have ever met all have a general consensus of "treat your man good so he will treat you good back." They are independant and don't have to have someone on their arm to keep them feeling secure about themselves. Black women will WAIT for the RIGHT man... They don't bang through a deck of face cards trying to find him. Life this for beautiful black woman.

I'm not sure why the first comment has so many dislikes. Yes, it's true that its rare for a white man to date a black woman. Just because it happens (and yes, it happens) doesn't mean it's rare, it is rare...one in every...hundred? Thousand?! Oh yeah, I'm a black girl....On another note, for some reason I seem to attract lots of white men who are already in relationships but curious about 'being with a black girl'....there are lots of them out there...or maybe it's because I live in a predominantly 'white' town....but there are also a few blacks here

All WM don't get a free pass though, if I'm not attracted then it's not happening. They have to be able to hold a decent conversation and be aware of the world. It is what is inside that counts. The woman of colour who dates a white man is a woman who is not ashamed to show her gray hair. As a Caribbean woman residing in the U.S.A, I can sadly say I have not being lucky with both sexes;oops. My mom married interracially twice, my dad and my sister's dad (except my dad is mixed, Japanese and black with white ancestory). Anyhoo, my mom was beat as a child in school if she did not pronounce her word's correctly. My mom is brown skinned, almost dark skinned, and because she talked "proper" people often called her white. I think they were ignorant and intimidated. Although my mom married interracially, she doesn't love in color; that's just the way things turned out. Some black people can be so evil to other blacks just because they don't fit into the cookie cutter image of what a black person "should" be like. Even my friends call me white and I am not a "proper" talking person; I have a strong Southern tongue, (just not Texan or Alabaman strong lol) They call me white because I am not loud, boistourous, and ghetto. They call me white because I "dance like a white girl." They call me white because I'm different, and I'm not even light-skinned, more like caramel ;). I know they don't mean harm by it unlike those who called my mom white. But I don't feel like I am a color, although I might look it. I gett along with everyone, I love everyone. I am attracted to all shades of the rainbow, TRUST. I just wish blacks would just stop being so ignorant and evil towards each other, isn't the struggle of being black in America enough for you to not want to add weight to it because of your insecurities?

Both the white and black men are good, but some time the white man are so romantic, when I felt Love was with a white and he Loved me truly before I lost him, the way he respect me, talk and treat me make me feel needed and in a safe hand. A woman always want to be Loved and they Love who ever shows Love to them it don't mater if his black or white, it maters if u feel rite with the person u spends ur time with, cos u feel special, needed. Everyone have different Relationship experience, and me dating a white then felt better and unique. I don't knw if I wld still ever be loved like dat again!

It is extremely common for white men to be attracted to black women. I know because I'm one of them. I know that this is off topic a little bit but what difference does it make to other people, the degree of pigmentation of the person that an individual cares for. The word race, is a racist, psuedo scientific term which holds absolutely no scientific validity. There is only one race and that is the human race. We are one people, who spread all over the world. We developed tans in warm climates and lightened in colder climates. We have subtle changes in some features, depending on what environment we were in. We are all human, so who cares about variations in skin color. I have always known that skin color holds no relevance to the worthiness of a person or who one "should" be attracted to.

armenta28 - For years I've been trying to get someone to answer or at least explain this question, if wht people evolved as a result of living in colder climates, what about those who live up at the Article Circle (Eskimos). I've yet to see a blond haired blue eyed Native Alaskan or Eskimo and they've lived there thousands of years but they've retained their Asiactic features, most notably their yellow to almost brown skin, dark colored hair and brown eyes. I'm curious about that!

It's simple. Those people migrated to those climates after their genetic phenotypes were already "set". It takes more than just hundreds of years to see a change in phenotype but, thousands. You're incorrect, these people haven't been there for thousands of years. Also, these people would have to produce a child with blue eyes and blond hair and then that person would have to reproduce in order to see a significant change in phenotype. Since these communities are small, the genetic pool is also small. So this is why you see only brown haired, Asiatic people. New genes would have to be introduced to created new phenotypes.

NOPLAYER:- When Africans emigrated to colder climes thousands of years ago the darker ones died out from rickets caused by vitamin D deficiencys due to less sunlight (harder to obsorb through black skin) and less fruit. The lighter ones like albinos survived and reproduced. Eskimos didn't need to evolve because they eat nothing but fish and seals which contains all the vitamins needed to keep rickets away.

amen armenta28!! me and my mom are always saying this and I think it's absolutely amazing to hear (or read in this case) a white man feels the same way! I was starting to think it was only us. In my high school there were VERY few interracial couples and they'd be the ONLY ones brave enough to go to a dance with each other. everyone else pretty much kept it whites with whites (or preps) and blacks with blacks/hispanics.

PBS did a show on race. They still have it on their website. It was called "Race-The Power of an Illusion." It explains how the term race came into existence here in the US. It really goes in hand with what Armenta28 said.

Don't know. It's really rare for a white guy to date a black girl.

@rinaloves2 Girlfriend, u are so right, my family originally came from the island of San Dominque, now Haiti, after the spanish/french revolution they escaped/migrated to New Orleans around the 1800's and were free people of color...at great great grand mother who lived to be 112 years old spoke of the women in our family who participated in what was called "plessage", a situation where wealthy white male sometimes wealthy french male would take care of a women supplying all of her needs such grand houses, fully furnished, servants to care for the home and a very generous stiphen of cash each month. The women of plessage did not want for anything...they were educated, very religious, mostly catholic and were very adapt in the art of pleasing their men...Some bore them children which were also taken care of educated, and provided for monetarily...my great great aunts had these arrangements as did three of their daughters...mind you this was approximately from 1836 to 1890 or so. So I am in aggreement with you being a living decendent and product of such an arrangement. Most ppl don't want to recognize the fact that as it is here an has always been in New Orleans..existed then as very much alive today..white men have always been attracted to black women of color...Can we blame them...as the pslamist King David proclaimed..."how wonderfully I am made"...we come in all shades, from hues of deepest dark chocolate, darkest berry to mocha, from cafe au'lait to caramel cream, we are Gods gift, which makes us more of a valuable asset if you will...we are unique and endowed with physical traits that are most appealing to every man, not just limited to while males..ok! Btw way my mother who is now 92 can also attest to the relavence of my statements...she who was married to my father who is decendent from the woman of which I spoke.

I'm sorry that you don't know... But this day an age white are starting to step up to the plate with more an more black women. With that being said, white men have always had an attraction for the black women. It's just America's past history is what shamed white men from openly dating an marring black women. According to my grandma who's 82 yrs old, she says white men has always been with black women but it was kept a secret. I that this website for being created because more an more interracial couples and marriages are being produced.....

Well said, but, why are some of us even replying to that nerd?! There are white guys way better-looking than him who are open to dating black women. We have to keep it moving....

Its not rare at all. You just have to know where to look. I dated white guys in high school, when I was in the Marine Corps, and I even married a white guy, although I married the wrong one.

Rare? I don't think so sir, but maybe you can ask the deserving "men" who love us because of us, not because of our skin color?

A woman who is comfortable in her own skin and doesn't define herself by the man she's with. Nor does she judge the man by the skin he's in.
