Megan Thee Stallion is showing her support for the Asian American community following the devastating Atlanta shootings on March 16.
The Grammy-winning rapper has teamed up with Fashion Nova and journalist and activist May Lee to donate $50,000 to the non-profit organization, Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta.
The donation is part of a bigger $1 Million donation to Women on Top – an initiative which aims to empower women by helping to fund female-driven organizations, from businesses to non-profits to educational programs, and more.
According to a statement, Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta is the “first and only non-profit legal advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the civil rights of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) in Georgia and the Southeast.” And we couldn’t be happier to see the rapper get behind such an important initiative.
Megan Thee Stallion detailed the collaboration on her Instagram page…
“I am heartbroken by the loss of eight individuals taken from their families on March 16 in a senseless, violent attack against Asian Americans,” she wrote.
“To honor the memory of these victims, @FashionNova and I have partnered with the journalist and Asian activist @mayleeshow on a $50,000 donation to @advancing_justice_atl who work tirelessly to protect the civil and human rights of Asian Americans in Georgia and the Southeast.
“We stand in solidarity with all Asian Americans in saying that enough is enough. #StopAsianHate #StandWithAANHPICommunity.”
We’re glad to see that Megan Thee Stallion is using her voice and influence for good and we’re proud to see her take on some philanthropic work too!
The Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta organization isn’t the only organization to benefit from Megan Thee Stallion and Fashion Nova’s Women on Top initiative… So far, $100,000 has also been donated to the Breonna Taylor Foundation, and $25,000 has been raised for the Texas Southern University to support scholarships for women at the college of pharmacy and health sciences.
Megan “couldn’t have been more thrilled” with the collaboration with the clothing brand, as she told E! News that she always understood the importance of giving back…
"I grew up with very strong women around me, who instilled the importance of giving back," the WAP rapper told E! News earlier this month. "I realize I am in a unique position to use my voice to amplify causes that are important to me.
"When Fashion Nova approached me about their Women on Top Initiative, I couldn't have been more thrilled. Giving out a million dollars is a big deal! These grants are going to change lives."
We think so too!
